Brian Welburn

Brian Welburn is an experienced geoenvironmental technician with over 20 years' of experience, capable of undertaking a range of site tasks.  Brian has operated a range of different drilling rigs and holds the NVQ Level 2 qualification as a land driller.  He can operate tracked excavators (up to 10 tonnes) and undertake field tests such as soakaway tests in accordance with BRE 365.  He also has extensive experience in monitoring and sampling for both groundwater and ground gas including low flow groundwater sampling and obtaining gas samples for VOC analysis. Brian is also capable of acting as a site supervisor and describing soils to BS5930.

Training and Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 2 Land Drilling – Lead Driller

  • Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) for excavator 360 below 10 tonnes – tracked

  • Driving licence for vehicles up to 7.5 tonne and capable of towing up to 3.5 tonnes.

  • CSCS Card: Health and Safety Test for Operatives

  • SPA/UKPIA: Safety Passport Alliance Core and Petrol Retail Safety Passport

  • Asbestos Awareness: ROSPA approved training

  • SSSTS Training: CITB Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme

  • Cable Avoidance Tool: Operator training provided by Aurelia Ltd. 

  • First Aid Training: Emergency First Aid at Work by St Johns Ambulance

  • Soil Description training provided by Equipe

Skills
  • Lead driller for various rigs including window samplers, Geoprobe and Comacchio

  • Excavator operator

  • Groundwater monitoring and sampling (various techniques including low flow)

  • Ground gas monitoring and sampling (including sampling for VOC analysis)

  • Soakaway tests to BRE 365

  • Site supervision and logging of soils to BS5930
